THE WICKLOW LEAGUE fixtures were decimated once again at the weekend due to the atrocious weather.

A whole four matches lived to tell the tale, with waterlogged pitches leading to postponements throughout the Garden County.

Celtic Stars and Wicklow Town put the miserable elements aside to serve up a thriller in their Division 1 Cup quarter final game. Division 1 leaders Wicklow Town lead three times in the match but bowed out of the competition after losing 4-3 on penalties.

The visitors lead thrice at Drummin through Shane Dunne, Richard Murphy and Eddie Kelly but Stars fought tooth and nail and clawed their opponents back on every occasion; John Kavanagh and Paddy Byrne were on target in normal time, with Daniel Egan netting the extra time leveller.

Stars then used their momentum to claim the win in the dreaded battle of nerves from 12 yards.

Two more semi-finals sports were also decided over the last few days with Rathnew AFC A and Aughrim Rangers storming into the last four of the Jim McLaughlin Premier Trophy and Thomas Scott Cup respectively.

Enniskerry YC attempted to halt Rathnew's progress but their efforts did little to stem Rathnew's charge towards silverware. Defender Colin Jameson bagged a brace at Berryfield Lane for the Villagers, with Aidan Small, Jay Taylor and Ken Doyle contributing singles.

Aughrim Rangers matched Rathnew's goalscoring exploits as they carved out a smooth passage to the last four of the Thomas Scott Cup on Sunday with a crushing 5-0 victory over Redbank United at Allen Park.

Rangers had five different names on the scoresheet as they put their Division 2 relegation rivals to the sword with ease. Liam Keenan, Conor Phelan, Jason Cushe, Rory O'Brien and Keith Stevenson all found the back of the net for Rangers.

The only other fixture not to fall foul of Jack Frost was the meeting of MK Dons and Saints FC B in Division 3. The duo failed to produce a tie that would overcast the miserable weather though as they played out a dull 1-1 draw.
