ONE of the most eye-catching signings Stephen Kenny has made so far was the capture of former Celtic player Richie Towell and along with this new teammates Towell began his pre-season preparations in Oriel Park last Wednesday night.
'It was a tough opening session but very enjoyable,' he reported. ' We are concentrating on fitness at the beginning. It was good to meet my teammates and everybody is very positive about the season ahead.'
Towell, who spent a number of years at Celtic and recently on loan at Hibernian, revealed that he had plenty of options in the League of Ireland before making the decision to join Dundalk.
'There was a lot of interest from clubs here. I kept fit playing parttime with Bluebell for a while. Stephen Kenny just sold the whole club to me. He explained the way he wanted the team to play and that appealed to me.
'He wants to play the game properly and be positive – after talking to him I made my mind up quickly.'
Helping Towell get used to his new surroundings were a few faces that he was familiar with.
'I have played with Kurtis Byrne and know Wardy and Andy Boyle from playing football at youth level. I also roomed with Stephen McDonnell when we were at Celtic together.
'Everybody is really looking forward to getting going. I can't wait to get started. I just want to play football consistently and help the club enjoy a good season.'
