Academy awards presented
GLENMUIR Soccer Academy's 65 registered players in the Under-6 and Under-7 age groups were presented with their Academy medals at their final training session of the season recently and they all had a ball.
The Academy, which runs from March through to November, taking a break for Christmas, is an introduction to kids as young as five years old to the game of soccer and coaches within the club teach them the basic skills needed to play the game in a fun environment.
Next summer, players born in 2006 (Under-8) and 2005 (Under-9) will once again play in the Dundalk Schoolboys League mini sevens where, again, the emphasis will be on taking part and having fun.
These age groups get ample football and it is a great introduction for young players and their families and good preparation for competitive 11-a-side football on a full-sized pitch from ages Under-13 upwards.
A special thank-you is due to the Academy's coaches and co-ordinators - Ciarán Caldwell, Gary Rogers, Eamonn Farrell, Barry Clarke, Seán Hoey, Stephen Hutchinson and Joe Weir - for giving the kids great coaching all year round.
The Glenmuir Academy is open to all boys and girls aged from five to seven years old and it will be recommencing in March on a date to be announced.
It would be a good idea to keep an eye on the Academy section on the Glenmuir website and on Facebook for updates on developments.
Registration forms will be available from coaches and on registration new members will receive official Glenmuir Academy gear.
Explaining the thinking behind the Academy, Caldwell commented: 'At Glenmuir FC we place huge importance on our community work and the soccer academy is a major part of that.
'Children are the future of the club both on and off the field, and we have seen first-hand what great work football in the community does and how much fun the kids have at the Glenmuir FC Academy.'
There will be a registration day during March when new members will be able to join and pay the registration fee and fill out the forms.
