Youths bounce back
DUNDALK Youths bounced back from surrendering the League Cup trophy after their recent defeat in the quarter-final by beating their Athlone outfit Willow Park at Oriel Park on Sunday afternoon in the Leinster Youths Cup to advance to the fifth round.
They held the upperhand for most of the game, but it took two goals in the final ten minutes to ensure they prevailed after Willow twice came from behind in the second half.
Dundalk dominated the first half and were rewarded with the lead on 35 minutes with a fine left foot finish to the bottom corner of the net from inside the box.
The visitors equalised five minutes after the break when they broke fast after the Youths surrendered possession inside their opponents half and applied a cool finish.
Cody Magill restored the lead for the Youths from the spot on the hour and was afforded a golden opportunity to tighten his side's grip on the game when they won a second penalty minutes later. This time he failed to find the net, and Willow took advantage of this let-off to draw level again, courtesy of an error by Fergal Sheehy. An innocent looking shot from distance was misjudged by the goalkeeper and entered the home net.
However, the Youths rallied again to regain the lead ten minutes from time with a fine strike by Pauric McGowan and secured victory with a fourth goal two minutes from the end with a diving header by Anto Reilly from a corner.
