Kevin's see off plucky St Nicholas in decider
Division 4A Final - St Kevin's 2-13 St Nicholas 3-9
IT took extra time to separate these two teams, with St Kevin's triumphing by the narrowest of margins.
St Nicholas led the match from the start, and despite the Kevin's efforts it was the Drogheda side who led at the break courtesy of scores from Padraic Downey (three pointed frees), goals from Jack Fallon and Rory Hanlon and a point from Ryan Farrell.
Quick scores at the start of the second half from Stevie Finnegan (1-1) and Femi Fanifosi saw Nicks open up a good lead, but the wind got behind the Kevin's and they picked off some great points to finally draw the match.
And in extra time they used their momentum to good effect, adding another 1-1 to their score, while Nicks could only manage three points through Rarrell, Hanlon and Fanifosi.
Neverthleless, this was a great contest and the whole Nicks squad contributed all year and should be very proud of their efforts.
AN evenly contested match played in Clogherhead last Monday evening saw the combination outfit leave with the spoils.
Dunleer/Togher were leading at the break on a 1-5 to 0-4 scoreline following some excellent point-scoring from McGrane and Osborne.
Dreadnots fought gamely in the second half and goals by Scullion and Lakij saw them take the lead, but the combination team then broke quickly and goaled and Dreadnots were made to rue some squandered chances as they searched for an equaliser late on.
Best for Dreadnots were Conor Shevlin, Conor Smith and Richard Thornton.
