WOLFE Tones had reason to celebrate after showing their class to win the Under-12 Division 4B Final at Darver.
The Drogheda side pressed hard from the start, not giving the opposition much of the ball, and after a near miss from Sean Flanagan, Thomas O Connell opened the scoring with a fine point from distance.
The mid Louth combination hit back almost immediately to equalise, but the Tones lads seemed the much hungrier team and from a quick attack Jacub Kula put Aaron Flanagan through for a goal.
Another great move from Adam Kelly ended with O'Connell popping up outside him to put the ball over the bar. Glyde/Westerns hit back with two well-taken points, but a score from the industrious Joe Comiskey ensured the Tones took a 1-3 to 0-3 lead into the half-time break.
The second half saw the introduction of fresh legs and one of the incoming players, Dayle Eyers, made an immediate impact as he made a magnificent catch and shot from distance to lob the opposition keeper for a goal.
Two further points from Aaron Flanagan and O'Connell helped the Drogheda side open a sizeable gap, and solid defence from Dylan Byrne and David Hobbs together with terrific keeping from Oisin Sheedy kept the Glyde/Westerns scores to a minimum. Eventually they did break through and got a goal and two points for their reward, but then Callum Sheedy came on for the injured Comiskey and within minutes had the ball in the net.
There were jubiliant scenes at the final whistle after the Tones had secured their first trophy in this age group for many a year. Their best players were Killian McLoughlin, Aaron Flanagan, captain Thomas O'Connell, Jacub Kula and Joe Comiskey.
