KILKERLEY

LOURDES COMMITTEE

The Kilkerley Lourdes Committee hold just ONE fundraising event each year which is a Flag Day held in Dundalk and this year it takes place this Friday, August 16. Each year there are less shops/businesses who will allow this type of collection so we are very grateful to those who do give us permission to collect. In order to make this Flag Day a success we very badly need volunteers to sell flags. The money raised from this collection will be used to send sick Pilgrims and Workers on the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes. We appeal to all who can to volunteer to do at least one hour selling flags.

Please contact either Kathleen McCreesh 9377188 or Kathleen Sharkey 9377270 and let them know if you can help. The Committee really appreciate whatever help you can give. For those who will not be in Town on that day donations can be made to any member of the Committee.

The inaugural Kilkerley 4 mile run/walk around the block will take place on Friday evening August 30 at 7pm.

The event will be followed by refreshments and a good night's craic in Kilkerley Community Centre. This is a fundraising event for a new running/walking track for the community in Kilkerley. LOUTH

PITCH 'N' PUTT

Last week we congratulated Brendan Lawlor on his great win in the All Ireland Pitch and Putt competition and this week we send best wishes to his brother Liam who has being selected as an escort for the Rose of Tralee festival.

After St. Mochtas game last Sunday Liam headed off to the world famous festival and we will all have an extra interest in watching the show this year.

Good luck Liam and we know you will do us proud.

The last local to take part in this festival was Carol Ann Keenan who also did us proud.

PROBLEM HEDGES

Over this last week there has being a number of accidents on the Mullacrew to Kierans Cross road and one reason for this is that no hedges have been cut this year. Let's hope something is done to rectify this before a serious accident takes place.

CANCER FUNDRAISER

There has being a new Cara Cancer set up in Dundalk recently and already they have run fund raising events and now locals have the chance to support this very worthy cause when a family fun walk is taking place on Sunday 1st September from Louth to Tallanstown and we would urge all who can to come and take part.

It will be very enjoyable as well as helping this worth cause and also show your support for the hard working organisation.

MOCHTA'S BEATEN

St. Mochtas were beaten in the cruellest way possible last Sunday in the group championship match played at Ardee against St. Fechins.

Winning by two points the Fechins were awarded a free and with the very last kick of the game the ball either took a deflection or was punched but either way it ended up in the Mochta's net to snatch a last grasp winner for Fechins.

This was a game both teams needed to win to stay in the championship race but unfortunately it's the Termonfeckin side who progress and St. Mochtas now meet Glen Emmets in a relegation battle. This was a cruel way to lose but let's hope they can raise themselves for next Friday evening when they take on arch rivals and neighbours Glyde Rangers.

This game which will be played in Pairc Mochta will revive memories of the great battles between these two sides in the nineties. We expect a good crowd at the game.

St. Mochtas are preparing for their fund raising event Strictly Come Dancing which they are holding shortly.

Tickets will be on sale soon and we hear already their will be a good competitive line up for the event.

We also hear the early favourite is a certain young gentleman from Mullacrew.

SHELAGH

SHELAGH YOUTH CLUB

The youth club is now closed for the summer break. We wish all our members and their families a very enjoyable and safe summer.

We hope to see everyone back in September.
