Kickhams juveniles clash with Ardee

It was a week of the green and golds against the blues as far as Cooley underage teams were concerned.

The Kickhams and Ardee met at underage level three times last week with the Ardee side coming out on top on two occasions.

At under-16 level, Ardee won by 1-15 to 1-5, having led at half time by 1-9 to 0-2. This match was in the under-16 championship.

The Cooley team and scorers were: Sean Hayes, Christopher McGuinness, Cathal Quinn, Daniel Hanlon, Thomas McGuinness, Fiachra Malone, Kevin Murphy, Conor Kenny, Patrick Hanlon, Emmett McGuigan, Emmett Rogan (1-4), Aoghan Sheelan, Conor Loughran (0-1), Jason McCarragher, Michael Carron, Joseph Quinn, Ronan Sheelan, James O'Reilly, Sean McGrane, Nicholas Rafferty.

The Kickhams finally got their win when the under-15s got the better of Ardee in a league match. The Cooley under-15 team and scorers were: Sean Hayes, M.J. McCarragher, Cathal Quinn, Christopher McGuinness, Thomas McGuinness, Daniel Hanlon, Kevin Murphy, Alex Woods, Conor Kenny 0-2, James O' Reilly 0-1, Michael Carron 1-6, Adam Traynor, Joesph Quinn 0-2, Aoghan Sheelan, Conor Loughran 0-2. Subs; Ronan Sheelan 0-1, Brian Quinn.

In the under 14 League final, Cooley were unlucky not to hold out. They were behind at half time by nine points and with ten minutes remaining had drawn level but could not keep the momentum going and Ardee kicked on and added 4 late points to win the game by 4-10 to 3-9.

Cooley Kickhams had a convincing 4-9 to 2-3 win over the Blues at home last Wednesday evening last in the quarter final of the under 12 ladies Championship

They raced into an early lead with a great goal by Evanna McCann and another by Chaela Ferguson and led by 2-5 to 1-1 at the break, thanks also to some sharp shooting by Niamh Rice and a great midfield performance by Katelyn Quinn. Further goals by Kirsten Murray and another by Evanna McCann in the second half sealed a great win.

It was a great team performance with Hannah Kirwan and Ciara Quinn dominating at the back helped by Aoife McDaid, Aine McDonald, Orlaigh McGuigan and Laura McKevitt in the first half and by Lauren O'Hare and Sophie Challoner in the second. Up front Cooley were well served by Molly Hughes, Shania Murphy, Aoife Gregory, Deborah Malone and Aoife Murphy in the first half and by Roisin McDaid, Rebekah Woods and Aoife Woods in the second.
