Fighting Fechin's push Stabannon to their limits
GAA Ladies Football, Division 1: Stabannon P 1-11 St Fechins 2-5
St Fechin's ladies were narrowly defeated by the table toppers Stabannon Parnells in Stabannon on a glorious Sunday morning.
In a fantastic game, St Fechins started at a blistering pace, Roisin Kavanagh kicking the opening score followed quickly by another point from Rachel Kinch.
Stabannon responded knocking over 3 points in a row but Catherine McGlew managed to maintain a lead for the Fechins by slapping the ball into the back of the net after a shot from Sara Moore dropped short. But it was quickly followed by a goal and a point from Stabannon. Rebecca Howell responded for the visitors by hitting the back of the net, to end the first half with the sides level.
St Fechins started the second half strong but their momentum quickly dwindled in the scorching sun. With fifteen minutes to go the match was all square, but the more experienced Parnells team took control, scoring 3 unanswered points and all sight of a win for St. Fechins was gone.
