CLANS and Young Irelands had to settle for a draw in this entertaining Dundalk derby on Tuesday night but both sides will be wondering how they didn't manage to pick up both points.
The Clans got off to a great start and were leading going into the final five minutes, but then had to rely on two late points to claim a draw after the Young Irelands hit the only goal of the game.
The clash in Castletown saw the home side start brightly and open a 0-8 0-2 lead nearing half time. However, the Young Irelands gave themselves hope with three pointed frees to trail by 0-8 to 0-5 at the interval.
The Clans remained ahead for much of the half and were two points to the good with five minutes to play.
A goal from Derek Maguire helped his side to lead by 1-11 to 0-12 but Mark McGeown and Billy Smith struck late points to snatch a draw.
