AFTER basking in the glow of a Senior Championship success for a week, Newtown Blues U-16s showed that the fufture is just as bright at Newfoundwell as Colm Nally's troops clinched another title in the curtain raiser to the IFC decider at Dowdallshill.
The Drogheda outfit added to St Mary's woes following their Minor final defeat to Geraldines a week previously, but with players like Ryan Rooney and Rory Cousins lining out in both games, there are better things to come at Pairc Mhuire too.
In truth the Blues were never really troubled in this clash. The opening exchanges were even enough, but the Blues exterted their authority as the half progressed and Ciaran Downey's goal helped them to a 1-9 to 0-4 interval lead.
St Mary's rallied after the restart to close th gap to three points, but Downey was on hand again to net and important second goal for the Blues.
Again the Mary's refused to give in and close the gap for four points again, but a goal from the penalty spot from Emmet Carolan esnured it would be Blues day.
