A KILKERLEY woman who is battling a heroin addiction is now trying to come off the drug, Judge Flann Brennan was told last week.
Lorraine Quigley, (27), Cortial Road, Kilkerley, admitted two drugs possession charges at the district court. The court heard that Gardai stopped Quigley as she was walking in Greenacres on August 9 last year and when they told her they were going to search her for drugs, she handed over heroin, worth €25, that was wrapped in silver paper.
On February 24, Gardai found Quigley sitting in the back seat of a car that was parked on the Carrick Road and a drugs search uncovered a piece of time foil with a small amount of heroin on it.
She has previous convictions for theft and solicitor Frank McDonnell said Quigley had 'a difficult time over the past number of years'. He said she is currently 'not really well' because she is in withdrawal and is waiting for an appointment with a consultant to help her with her drugs problem.
Mr McDonnell said his client is 'making real efforts' to deal with her problem.
Judge Brennan adjourned the case to March 20 ' to see how things go'.
