Race night fundraiser for martial arts club
A FUNDRAISER has been organised for the members of Samurai Martial Arts club in Carlingford, who will be attending the WKA world championships in Tuscany, Italy, in October.
It is being held in McKevitts Hotel, Carlingford, on Friday. The event is a race nite with music and finger food served on the night.
Afterwards there will be a raffle with plenty of spot prizes kindly donated by local businesses. There are tickets on sale for €10 or admission at the door on the night for €15.
A club spokesperson said that 'we have great support from local businesses in the village of Carlingford with spot prizes from many firms including F. J. Murphys, Oystercatcher, Bradleys Parmacy, Exclusive Hair Salon and Food for Thought. Sponsorship was also given by Cooley Foods, Gavin Richardson, Des Savages Butchers and Simon at P. & A. Quinn in Dundalk who are all suppliers of the Four Seasons Hotel in Carlingford where Sensei, Alan Halpin, is the Sous Chef.'
Luke Boyle and Aidan Ryan started in the club back in April when it first opened, in the Four Seasons Hotel. 'From day one both showed great potential at the sport and dedication to the club', according to Alan Halpin, 'from day one I saw a spark and talent from them both and knew that they had the potential to go far in the sport and be future stars.'
Luke and Aidan both started to progress extremely fast, attending both junior and senior classes each week, and grading up ranks faster then any other students in the club. They also took a huge interest in the other side of the club attending Aikido, strength and conditioning and self defence classes which shows their true commitment and dedication to martial arts.
They are training extremely hard for the championships with training sessions 5 times a week and private sessions with their Sensei, all to be up to the task of representing their country, TEAM IRELAND, in this massive event in Italy.
