DKIT launched the new bike rental scheme during 'Green Campus Week' recently
The new scheme was organised by DKIT Students Union in partnership with the Cycle Centre in Dundalk.
Students will now be able to rent a bike for three, six or nine months.
Welcoming the new initiative, Brian Fitzpatrick, president of the students union said: 'This is a great way to reduce the volume of traffic coming on to campus everyday, and will be less costly for students than having to buy a bicycle.'
He added that it would be ideal for foreign students who may only be living here during term time.
'There is an increasing number of people cycling to college, so I think this makes it easier, and more affordable.'
Meanwhile, for those who have to rely on a car to get to and from college, the Students Union president said he hoped they would be able to increase the amount of parking spaces in the coming months.
'It is hoped that more parking spaces will be available for students at the new JJB facility. This would go some way to reducing congestion on the main campus,' said Brian.
As part of the DKIT Green campus campaign, on Friday May 2 May DkIT's Bio Blitz will be taking place.
This is being organised by the Green Campus and the Science Department at DkIT that will include a photo treasure hunt with a prize for the winner.
