History was made when the rainbow colours of the LGBT Pride flag was raised over the town hall this week to coincide with Dundalk Pride 2014.

The flying of the flag came about after Sinn Fein councillor Edel Corrigan successfully tabled a motion at the recent meeting of Dundalk Municple District.

Dundalk Pride Week, which has the theme 'Because Family Matters' was officially opened by Deputy Jerry Buttimer, chair of Fine Gael LGBT, in Dundalk Outcomers on Monday.

The week continued with a seminar on Diverse Families and the opening of the exhibition 'Relate' by photographer Ken Finegan in the County Museum on Tuesday.

Other events include an open music session in the Outcomers courtyard on Thursday at 8pm, the Pride Party in the Fairways Hotel on Friday night, and Pride Day on Saturday when when Outcomers Centre, Roden Place, is transformed with artisan food, terrace café, barbecue, live music and entertainment, holistic therapies, garden games and children's play area, from 12pm to 5pm.
