Explosive devices made safe

FOUR VIABLE 'improvised explosive devices' (IEDs) were made safe by an Army Bomb Disposal Team after they were discovered at a derelict house in Haggardstown on Sunday.

Gardai found the devices around 2pm and called in the bomb disposal team who ordered the evacuation of a number of houses and a restaurant and bar on the Old Dublin Road and the scene was cordoned off. The items were made safe at around 6.15pm and the road was re-opened.

The devices were not believed to be pipe bombs but Garda experts in Dublin are forensically examining them to determine who may have made them.
