Exhibition of local artists' work at Basement Gallery
AN exhibition by seven artists from Bridge Street Studios is currently on display at The Basement Gallery in the Town Hall, with the offical opening taking place on Wednesday evening.
Entitled 'Response' the exhibition has taken the collective nature of their working together in the studio and developed it into an exciting experience which examines how artists find inspiration in each other's work.
To begin with each of the seven artists created an initial piece of work in their chosen medium which communicated their perception of 'Internal'. These works were gifted along a chain to another artist colleague who took inspiration from their gifted piece and created five new artworks in response. This resulted in an interesting dynamic and communication between the pieces, which mirrored the connection among the artists at Bridge Street Studios.
The artists who took part in the project are Fiona Thornton, Orla Barry, Rachel Tinniswood, Gemma Callén, Sarah McKenna, Fiona Quigley and Mary Cowan and features works in ceramics, jewellry, mixed media, textiles, and paintings.
'Response' is a touring exhibition that opened initially in the Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre, Armagh in August followed by The Craft Granary in Cahir, Tipperary in October. The work has been well received by appreciative gatherings of artists, art enthusiasts and collectors.
The exhibition was officially opened by Eileen Corcoran of the Arts and Culture Show, Dundalk FM on Wednesday, November 20, when poet Barbara Smith also read a poem specially commissioned for theexhibition.
The artists also gave a talk about their work in Basement Gallery last Friday, November 22
The exhibition runs until this coming Friday, November 29.
