Execution of IRA volunteers will be commemorated

THE EXECUTIOn of six IRA volunteers in Dundalk 90 years ago will be commemorated at an event in the town on Saturday.

The Watters Brothers Sinn Féin cumann will commemorate the execution of the volunteers which took place in January 1923.

Thomas McKeown from Bellurgan, John McNulty from Co Armagh and Thomas Murray from Navan were executed at Dundalk Gaol on Saturday January 13 1923.

James Melia from Bridge Street Dundalk, Tomas Lennon, Dowdallshill, and Joseph Ferguson, Gyles Quay, were executed the following week 22 January 1923 at the Military Barracks.

The commemorative event will take place on Saturday January 19 at the Dundalk Old Gaol at 11.30am.

The organisers would like to invite members of the public to come along to honour and remember these six young men.
