Councillors in the dark over reforms

THE COUNCILLORS most affected by the proposed changes to local government are still waiting to learn the exact details of how the plans put forward by Minister Phil Hogan will work, according to Dundalk Town Council chairperson, Cllr. Jennifer Green.

'We all agree that reform is needed but this is being rushed through,' she said. ' We don't know the details of how it's going to work and what impact it will have.'

One area which she is concerned about is what will happen to the allocations which councillors make to local community groups and charities.

'As a member of Dundalk Town Council I can only give to charities and groups in Dundalk, so what's going to happen when it beomces a countywide council for all of Louth? Will small charities end up competing with big organisations when it comes to getting funding?'
