Businessman caused four-car pile-up

A NEWRY businessman who caused a four-car collision when he crashed into a car stopped at traffic lights, causing a knock-on effect, was fined €350 and disqualified from driving for three years when he pleaded guilty at Dundalk District Court to a charge of drunk driving.

The court heard that a lapse in concentration by Hugh Curtis,aged 31, of 10A Marcus Square, Newry resulted in the crash at Castle Road.He was arrested and taken to Dundalk Garda Station where a specimen showed him to be over the legal limit for driving.

Mr Frank McDonnell solicitor said his client had 'taken his eye off the road' before the accident. Judge Flann Brennan agreed to postpone the implementation of the disqualification until January 2nd next.
