A DUNDALK man who was found standing in the bath of a house in College Heights with boxer shorts on his face, after he and another man broke in, has been fined at the district court.

Sean Gorman (22), whose address was given as 49 Park Street, was one of two men whom gardaí found in a house at College Heights on January 3 last year when they responded to a call about a break-in.

Gardaí said Gorman was standing in the bath tub when they arrived and had boxer shorts around his face to conceal his identity. Gorman had fresh cuts to his right hand while his left was covered with a rubber glove. He told gardaí he's gone into the house to get his co-accused out.

On August 18, gardaí saw Gorman in Earl Street and watched him as he dropped a knife out of his left hand has they approached.

Solicitor Frank McDonnell said his client, who has two previous convictions for public order and having no licence, had saved a total of €540 in compensation after the College Heights burglary and it has all been handed to gardaí to pass onto the victim. The co-accused had not paid anything.

Mr McDonnell said Gorman 'made no bones about it' and had found the knife a short time before he was stopped.

Judge Flann Brennan imposed fines totalling €200.
