THE MOST inspiring story from the Dundalk Santa Run was that of of 11-year-old Travis Foley.
Travis, from Clann Chulainn Park, suffers from a rare condition known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which has affected him since he was three or four years old.
A pupil of Redeemer Boys, he was nominated by his school for a special prize being awarded as part of the Santa Run fundraiser, a trip to Eurodisney for himself and his family!
'We were absolutely thrilled when we got word that Travis was being awarded this fantastic prize, it really has made it a very special Christmas for him and all of us,' said mum Tracy.
Travis braved the rain to make it down to the launch of the Santa Run in Market Square last Friday.
' There was a great atmosphere, and so many people who were taking part even though the weather was so bad,' said Tracy.
The family are planning to take their trip in March 2013, when Travis, his mum, his aunt and best friend Brian McKeown will be making their way to Disneyland in Paris.
'I can't say enough how much we appreciate this, it really is a fantastic surprise for Travis, who is just over the moon about it. We really want to thank the Chamber of Commerce, and everyone who took part in this event for giving him this incredible opportunity.'
Travis and his mum were presented with their prize, valued at €2000, by chamber president Paddy Malone, and Paddy Matthews, Matthews coaches.
