A MASSIVE 500 people applied to work in Tesco's new Dundalk store the first day the UK giant opened on-line applications, the Argus can reveal.

A company spokesman confirmed that there was 'a huge number of applicants from the Dundalk area' for jobs in the Tesco Extra store, which is due to open in a matter of weeks..

The exact number of jobs to be created at the new multi-million store will be revealed when the shop opens on August 4. Recruitment was carried out on line via Tesco's own careers website over a two-week period, with all positions now filled.

Drogheda man Brian Farrell has been appointed manager of the huge 55,300sq.ft store.
