Film equipment, worth an estimated €30,000 to €40,000 was stolen in just ten minutes from the hire car of an American crew who had stopped off at the Carrickdale Hotel, it has been revealed.

Gardai are looking at CCTV from the area and believe they have identified a suspect car involved in the incident, which happened on Sunday afternoon.

The three American men had only arrived in Ireland earlier that day and had hired a car which they drove to Carrickarnon where they parked at the hotel and went inside at around 2.40pm.

But 10 minutes later, they discovered that their vehicle had been broken into and their property, described as 'electronic film equipment' and estimated to be worth in the region of €40,000, had been stolen.

The rear passenger window had been smashed and the items were taken. Gardai are investigating whether the tourists were followed or whether thieves struck it lucky.
