THE EAST of Ireland Bridge Congress, hosted by the Dundalk Bridge Club, will celebrate its 70th anniversary at the Crowne Plaza Hotel this weekend.
The official opening of the congress will take place on Friday, November 16, at 7.15 p.m.
Congress president, Eileen McEntegart will welcome and invite Liam Hanratty, President of the Contract Bridge Association of Ireland (CBAI) to formally open the event.
The congress, which is the second longest established congress in the country, attracts bridge players from throughout Ireland.
Competitions are held for all grades from novice to master levels.
Mixed pairs and open pairs competition will commence at 7.30 p.m. on Friday.
Masters pairs and intermediate pairs will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Leinster Schools championship will start at 2 p.m.
Keen competition is expected.
St. Vincent's School, Dundalk are the current holders.
The Novice pairs are 7 p.m. and open pairs at 7.30 p.m.
On Sunday, the teams will commence at the earlier time of 11 a.m while the intermediate B competition and open pairs will start at 3 p.m.
The congress are pleased to welcomed back this year experienced tournament directors Ferghal O'Boyle, Mairead Basquille, Peter Byrne, Peter Milne and Noel Grimes.
Pre- entry is required for all events except for open pairs.
