Popular teacher retires

Her colleagues and pupils pulled out all the stops to say a big 'thank you' and 'farewell' to Mary Mullen when she left St Malachy's Girls' School, after working there as a teacher for 37 years.

The Ardee native, who spent all her teaching career in the school, said: 'I will miss the children and staff very much. I will even miss teaching but I won't miss the paperwork.'

Mary studied at UCD and St Patrick's Teaching Training College before joining the staff of St Malachy's Girls' School.

'I taught all classes from second to sixth,' recalled Mary. 'I then worked as a learning support teacher for the latter part of my career.'

Mary, who lives in Dundalk, enjoys singing with the Setanta choir.

She is looking forward to doing some travelling with her husband, who is also retired.

Best of luck Mary!
