Night of nostalgia for St Louis class of '91
NEARLY 21 years, but they all look just as good as they did in '91.
On Saturday night we headed for Kennedy's where the very first Gathering event in county Louth this year, it was the St Louis Leaving Cert class of 1991 were meeting up and people had come from far and wide specially to be there on the night.
Main organiser Eunice Rice from Rockmarshall told me they had started organising the event back in August last year and the night was the culmination of a global facebook campaign to get as many of the 6th years back together and they had a marvellous response from everyone who could be there.
I then decided to have a look round to see who was there and met up with Head Girl, Deirdre Craven who was having a laugh with Ruth O'Connell from Mountpleasant who told me they recognised everyone there and were delighted to see teachers Ray Byrne and Jim Kelly who had come along to meet up with some of their old adversaries!
Next I then got talking too Emer Thompson from Kilkerley who is now living in Coleraine who was having a laugh with Sinead Gill originally from Mill Road and who was over from Leitrim specially for the reunion. They were joined by Miriam Wilson once from Mullaharlin Road and now living in London as well as Joan O'Hanlon from Racecourse Road who told me they had no problem recognising everyone there, they all looked the same as they did back in '91 and were looking forward to an exciting night to say the least!
Next I got talking to Caroline McGuinness from Haggardstown who was chatting too Susan Brennan once from Haggardstown now living in Cork who told me it was great to see all the familiar faces after nearly 21 years.
Making my way over to a group of ladies I then got talking to Marcella Harrison from Mooreland who was having a time of it with Gillian Carolan from Culloville and Mary Richardson from Blackrock who told me this was a novelty for her seeing that Kennedy's used to be her family's pub! She said they all looked just as good as they did when they were 17!
After this I caught up with Alison Cooney from Blackrock and Moira Sweeney from Ard Easmuinn who were delighted to see all the familiar faces from all those years ago and assured me it was going to be a good night.
Not too long later I met up with Mairead Malone from Louth Village who was enjoying the company of Jean Carroll once from Annagassan and now living in Kensington in London who told me they were all different from what she remembers when they were 17, but were all wiser and more sophisticated.
Next I headed over for a word with Chanel Callaghan from Lower Point Road, Claire Marry from Knockbridge and Muriel Kirkby who has been living over in Adelaide for the last nine years, but wouldn't have missed this night for anything and told me all the girls looked even better now they are all 25!
I then made my way over for a chat with Sharon Finlay from Tallanstown who was with Edel Duffy from Blackrock who showed me copies of class magazine Inklings which had some great articles and photos in it.
After this I headed over for a word with Cliona Byrne from Red Barns Road who was enjoying the craic with Emer Conlon and Kiera Hall both form Park Villas who told me the night was long overdue and they were delighted to see all their old mates again.
Just arrived in when I met them were Marion Gogarty from Mansfieldstown and Caroline Cunningham from Jenkinstown who told me they were really looking forward to the night.
Finally, I caught up with ex teacher Ray Byrne who was taking photos for their St Louis Facebook page and told me it was fantastic to see all the faces again.
