Leaders overwhelmed by generosity of locals
THE ORGANISERS of the Girl Guide appeal were once again 'overwhelmed with the generosity of the people of Blackrock/ Haggardstown'.
Girl Guide leader Margaret Gamble reported 'we received some beautiful toys, and I'm sure there were plenty of smiling faces on Christmas morning! We were able to help 77 children in total, ranging in age from 1 to 18; each child received at least 3 toys.'
The teenagers were catered for too with the help of the Dundalk Cinema who donated cinema passes, and McQuillan's and Bradley's Pharmacies in the village who looked after the cosmetic needs of the girls.
Margaret told 'we also raised €350 in the raffle at the Girl Guide Musical, with thanks to Centra, Blackrock, Lush, McArdle's Meats, Paradise Beauty, Blackrock who donated great prizes and of course the wonderful generosity of the lovely parents who bought the tickets. May I also thank the three depots Vivo, Centra and Greengates who made space in their shops at this busy time of year to receive the toys on our behalf.
The local schools who helped promote the appeal but especially St. Oliver Plunketts School who donated €200 from their annual fast to the toy appeal. And last but not least no children would be smiling if it wasn't for the tireless work of Dominic Smith (SVP) and his wonderful ladies who distributed all the toys!
