The duo were honoured by Managing Directors Paddy and Mary Matthews at a special function at the company's headquarters this week.

A number of presentations were made to both John and Michael, among them a certificate of appreciation from Paddy and Mary, thanking them for being outstanding coach drivers during their time with Matthews.

' This is a very special day for the company and marks another milestone in our 17-year journey,' said Paddy.

'Michael and John represent everything that we set out to do at Matthews, and we are sad to see them leave.'

Michael, from Carrickmacross, has been a driver with Matthews for over a decade, and will miss a lot about the job.

'I spent a really enjoyable time here, and will miss the passengers and my fellow drivers.

' The people who travel on the buses every day are like friends to Matthews drivers, and we really do have a great with them.'

Limerickman John settled in Dundalk and spent the past five

relationship and a half years behind the wheel. 'I have to say, it's been great, and I will miss an awful lot about the driving,' said John.
