Green light for hospital expansion
PLANNING permission has been secured for a major new expansion at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
'The sooner we see this extension in place, the better. The permission granted is for a five-storey extension which will effectively double the size of the present Accident & Emergency Department. This will also provide a number of additional and badly needed outpatient beds,' Deputy Gerald Nash said. 'At present staff are having to operate in a very challenging situation. The demands are enormous and I met with the nurses' union this week, at my own request as I want to make sure that we work together to develop services and resources for our hospital and to develop sustainable solutions to address the ongoing and unacceptable problems with overcrowding in ED at the Lourdes.
