NEVER MIND a 'White' Christmas - it's a 'Green' one all the way in Blackrock on this Saturday, December 1. But forget about reaching into your pocket to buy trinkets or baubles or decorations, this is a Christmas fair with a difference – one that will actually save you money and have long term savings into the New Year and beyond.
Blackrock Tidy Towns are hosting a ' Green Christmas Fair' in the Community Centre on Sandy Lane from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday to provide householders with lots of information, tips and advice on how to 'green' up your home this festive season, making it more sustainable, cost efficient and environmentally friendly.
As well as providing practical advice and money-saving offers this is also a fun family event with lots of attractions for children and parents alike.
'Martin the Magician' will be making an appearance with a number of free magic shows, not to mention Pamela Whitaker of Groundswell who will host a 'Christmas wreath-making' workshop for children, using materials from the Biodiversity Garden in Blackrock park. As well as being great fun, crafting nature into the home is a wonderful way to green the home environment with nature's splendour.
From food waste to energy and water conservation, Blackrock's 'Green Christmas Fair' will have a host of exhibitors on hand with lots of advice and money-saving offers to help you improve your home. Information on energy surveys, BER ratings, solar panels, insulation, triple glazed windows, food waste 'digesters' and water saving devices will be available, in addition to tips and advice from An Taisce and Electric Ireland.
With spot prizes, energy and water saving devices to be won, it will be well worth your while to come along.
