Good water quality status

COUNTY Louth achieved 'good water quality' status in the new EPA report on beaches around the country.

Louth was one of six of the 18 local authority areas where the designated bathing were awarded 'good' water quality status. The four local bathing areas analysed were Shelling Hill/Templetown, Port Lurganboy, Clogherhead and Seapoint. Laytown/Bettystown also achieved 'good' water quality status.

The report also revealed that from 2014 a new water standard will come into play, with a new excellent rating up for grabs.
