On Saturday night I headed for the Dundalk Stadium where Linda Stewart from Mizu was hosting a Relay For Life fundraiser and the place was really buzzing by the time I got there.
I wasn't too long in the door when I met up with Gavin, Ella, Ronan and Tracy Duffy from Blackrock who were there to support the cause and were having a mad night together.
I then headed for a table where I caught up with Suzanne Dobson from Blackrock who was with Sheryl Muckian from Lis Na Dara who told me the betting had started well and they were up for making it a really great night of it.
Not too long later I got talking to Geraldine and Marie Killeen from Dunleer who was with Ollie and Ann McEvoy from Dromiskin and Una and Briege Casey from Kilcurry who told they hadn't had any luck just yet.
Eileen was enjoying a laugh with Siobhan Allen and Sheila Carey all from Dromiskin. Sheila told me she had 'won big' on the previous race and assured me it was the first of many.
I made my way over to Patriona Taylor from Ashbrook who told me she was enjoying the evening, but wasn't too sure about some of the advice she was getting from some of the punters beside her.
I then headed for a Horseware table where I got talking to Anne Newell from Oaklawns, Christine and Katie Newell from Castletown Road, Keith Newell from St. Nicholas Avenue who were all there to see Nicole Mooney-Newell who was getting her hair cut as a fundraiser for Relay For Life in the Stadium on that night!
They were enjoying the night with David Minto from Dromiskin who was keeping an eye on the serious punters Robert Kieran from Hillview, Dean O'Donnell from Belfry Drive and Mark Newell from Castle Heights who were too busy to talk they were engrossed in checking out the dog's form in the programme.
At an adjacent table I got talking to Karl and Lorna McEneaney from Marian Park who were having a laugh with Sandra Martin from Oaklawns and Michelle Mooney who were there to support Michelle's daughter Nicole getting 'the chop'.
Also in their company were Christine, Shane and Ryan Lee from St. Nicholas Avenue who were with Neil McArdle from St. Nicholas Gardens who were all there to support the worthy cause and to watch Nicole getting her hair cut.
After this I caught up with footballing legend, that soccer supremo Declan Gartland from Willow Grove who told me he was with his wife Kathleen and they were looking forward to a lovely night.
Making my way over to another table, I got talking to Brigid Murphy from Blackrock who was enjoying the company of Peter and Sibeal Monaghan from Tom Bellew Avenue, Carmel and Michael McKeown from Newry, Michael Lavelle from Heynestown, Christopher McCourt from Avenue Road and Anne Clarke from Carrickmacross who had had one good winner so far and the night was 'but a pup'.
At the next table I got talking to Derek Murdock from Readypenny who was with Graham and Joan Purcell from Blackrock (Joan told me she had won money on the dog with the Irish name that meant 'Keep Her Lit'), Darren Taaffe from O'Hanlon Park, Sarah-Jane Sharkey from Annagassan, Gavin McDonald from Manydown Close, Alex Jasinski from Barrack Close, Trudy Oliver from Farndreg Close and Beata Dziadosz from Chapel Street both of whom had a major winner and were enjoying the celebrations with Ciaran Connolly from Seatown who told me that Trudy is his biggest winner!
Finally, before I departed I met up with Samantha Tyhuis from Toberona who was out on her hen night and she was having a laugh with Suzanne Callaghan, Caroline Maher, Faye, Marian and Lisa Doran, Caroline Egan, Cora Tyhuis, Mary Caldwell, Margaret Fox, Betty and Amanda McGinn. Samantha told me she and Fra Doran from Toberona would be tying the knot in a few weeks!
