First Tidy Towns medal presented
AWARD TOURING LOCAL COMMUNITY
BLACKROCK'S VERY first medal in the national Tidy Towns competition was presented at an awards ceremony held in Abbeyshrule, Co. Longford last week. Abbeyshrule is this year's winner of the overall national title.
A group from Blackrock Tidy Towns made the journey to receive the award from Minister Phil Hogan. The medal has been brought to shops, pubs and other establishments in the village, and is currently touring the three schools in the parish.
It will eventually go on public display in the Tidy Towns cabinet at the entrance to the Village Centre.
'We are anxious that as many people as possible in Blackrock see this medal', explained Tidy Towns chairman John Horan.
' The award has been won by the whole village, not just by the Tidy Towns, so it's only right that everyone who has done anything to help the village win this prize, whether in the presentation of their own property, in maintaining their housing estate or by directly helping us, should share in this honour', he said.
