A COUNTY Louth pub has reached the final 24 shortlist in the fourth annual Great Carvery of the Year competition.

Dooleys of Edmondstown, near Ardee, is now through to the final stage of the competition following a six-week long public vote.

It is now in with a chance of being crowned the Great Carvery Hotel of the Year and Great Carvery Public House of the Year at the Grand Final in Dublin this September.

Brendan Dooley said the venue, which has only been open for three years, was delighted to get through to this stage of the competition, having made it through to the last three in Leinster out of an initial 32.

He said: ' We have never entered this competition before and we are only open three years so this is an achievement. We were looking forward to the second round where the competition field will be reduced from six to three and are delighted to have got through.

There are 12 hotels and 12 restaurants in the competition and the Louth venue is in the final three in Leinster in the pub-restaurant section after they were 'mystery shopped' and judges based on quality, atmosphere and value for money.

The pub will be mystery shopped again in the coming weeks before a final decision is made on the overall winners of the Great Carvery Public House of the Year and Great Carvery Hotel of the Year.
