The village's new Festival Queen will be chosen this Friday following a special pageant in the Fairways Hotel.

Ten fantastic contestants have been put forward by local businesses and the surrounding area to compete for the title. They are on the Facebook page www.facebook.com/BlackrockSeasideFestival.

The event is sponsored by the Fairways Hotel and Ruby Nu.

The festival weekend is going to be very busy thanks to a jam-packed programme. The festival committee have added many events to the programme this year and have put the call out for volunteers to help over the two days of the event.

There is a designated 'Kiddie Corner' for which the committee needs help to supervise. As a community festival, the comittee is asking the community to get involved.

Teams are to include two females and two reserves. Team colours and protective clothing must be worn. Cost of entry is €30 per team. Please contact Café Acqua at 9322600 to enter a team.

Put your culinary talents on display in the Chilli Con Carne Cook off on Saturday at 4 p.m. Cook your famous chilli at home and bring it along. The event is sponsored by and will also be judged by The Market Bar, Dundalk.

Show off your baking skills in the Brilliant Blackrock Seaside Festival Bake Off, run in association with the Blackrock ICA. The categories are: Cupcakes – Under 16s, Fruit Tarts – Over 16's, Preserves – Over 16's. Application forms are available from Café Acqua or The Home Bakery.
