The corridors of O'Fiaich College were filled with the sound of music recently as young musicians took part in Music Generation's orchestra week.

The youngsters, who had all been playing an instrument for a year or more, took part in a number of workshops including samba drumming as well as sessions with the Fidelio Trio.

They also worked on composition and composed their own piece which was featured in the end of week concert.

While most of the participants were strings players there were also some brass and wind musicians.

A number of newcomers were welcomed to the camp and its hoped that they will join Music Generation's Junior Orchestra when it begins rehearsing again at the end of the summer.

Meanwhile, there's more musical fun to be had at Song School which comes to O'Fiaich College from July 22nd to 25th.

This summer camp, which gives 8 to 12 year olds the opportunity to write and record their own song, sells out at the National Concert Hall in Dublin each year.

No previous experience is needed and places can be booked by contacting 9364635 or email musicgeneration@lmetb.ie
