A friend of mine imported a 1986 Toyota MR2 Mk I from Britain. To his amazement, he got a VRT bill of €800. The car ended up costing twice as much as it would have here . . . if he could find a decent one.
Of course Vehicle Registration Tax is calculated against the current value of a car, it works back from the price when new.
How much longer are we going to put up wit this trade/government scam? He didn't bother looking for a car in Ireland because there is too much junk in the Irish motor trade - which it would seem the VRT system is trying to force people to buy.
