You can picture it now: Elliott's pursuit of the master Mullins coming down to a photo-finish

Battle has been well and truly joined in Gordon Elliott's campaign to topple Willie Mullins from the top of the National Hunt heap in Ireland. Elliott recently moved past the century mark of winners for the season and at the time of writing led Mullins by a 107-69 margin.

The Meath trainer's topping of the ton is significant because only twice in the past decade has a trainer other than Mullins surpassed the century mark. Elliott (pictured) did so last season and Noel Meade managed it in the 2006/07 season, which was the last time Mullins didn't win the title.

You'd still fancy Mullins to retain his crown; it's usually around now that he starts stepping up a gear and he's just had ten winners inside a week.
