Even those normally immune to the charms of cricket are likely to have heard of Jonathan Trott. He is the tough South African-born batsman who has been one of the leading lights in the English game over the past decade.

But the name Jonathan Trott reached yet more people a couple of weeks ago when he quit England's squad on stress grounds just before the second Test match in the latest Ashes series against Australia.

Here was a high-profile sports figure with a huge weight of expectation on his shoulders who had decided that looking after his mental health took precedence over a sporting fixture famed for the enmity between the participants.
