THE BBC has released an advance clip of the "battle rounds" stage of The Voice, which airs over two nights this weekend.

We're now four weeks in, and the blind auditions are over, which means that the coaches are stuck with their teams of 10 hand-picked hopefuls.

Now it's time for them to whittle their choices down further to five apiece, pitting their selections one-on-one against each other in a series of battles.

Each of the four coaches - will.i.am, Jessie J, Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue - will divide their teams up into five pairs.

The paired singers will then face off against one another in what looks a lot like a boxing ring, where they will sing duets, knowing that whichever of them catches the coach's ear will progress through to the live shows, beginning on April 28.

The battle rounds take place across this weekend, with the two episodes airing on Saturday and Sunday night.

Now that The Voice's distinctive gimmick of the blind auditions is over, will the BBC hit be able to maintain its ratings advantage over ITV rival Britain's Got Talent? ITV certainly seems to be worried, having moved its Saturday night flagship to a later slot from this weekend. Michael Hogan has the analysis.

Until then, catch up on the coaches' best lines from the blind auditions stage here.

The battle rounds of 'The Voice' will be on BBC One on Saturday 21 April at 7.00pm and Sunday 22 April at 7.30pm
