They spent nine hundred million quid, give or take, in the summer transfer window that finally closed with a whimper last Tuesday.
And with that sort of money churning through the Premier League's vast financial silos, it is surely only a matter of time before the open window will officially be re-named the revolving door.
It is spinning faster with every passing season. This summer's total outlay smashed last year's record of £835m. One can only imagine that supporters, veteran supporters in particular, are finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with the never-ending tide of arrivals and departures.
