This Woman's Life: Smart words? Beckett would run a mile from such unpoetic lingo

Where can we hide from the effusiveness that is everywhere nowadays? We are swayed by the loud and the gaudy. The jangle, borders on delirium. Our vocabulary has changed, and so have we.

Daily we meet the new speak - the speak with 'smart' propping it up. Smart flies Aer Lingus, smart ageing, smart everything and everything 'going forward'.

Can we not be still? Can we hope for a little of Beckett's emptiness?
