Last May, Shay Given spoke in fairly awestruck terms about the Donegal Gaelic footballers he'd spent an evening with the previous summer.

And it wasn't an evening on the jar. He'd gone training with his fellow countymen at their base in Convoy. "The intensity, the physical input in the session was phenomenal," he told The Irish Times. They had taken their fitness to another level: "They're machines," he added.
