One Speech: but who's the winner?

What would we do without RTÉ? OK, that can be answered with a variety of rude, unkind and anatomically impossible suggestions, but, really, what would we do without our beloved national broadcaster?

Well, we could probably spend the hundred and sixty quid we'd save on the licence fee on something useful - the water charge springs to mind, seeing as we're on the topic of unpopular taxes - but it would certainly shake things up in Ireland.

We'd live in a land where there is no official State broadcaster, which would obviously be a good thing, and some of the producers who have been living in a state of well remunerated suspended animation in Montrose might be forced to get off their arses and come up with some interesting ideas to pitch, rather than the copy and paste programming we see so much of.
