You're wrong, Roy

• In response to the article headlined 'Roy Keane blasts team and says songs not enough' in yesterday's edition, I believe Roy Keane is not appreciating the value of the Irish fans. Commentators and viewers worldwide were left in awe and jealousy at the echoes of 'Athenry' in Gdansk.

Such large followings like this have not been seen since Italia '90 or America '94. The Irish fans were under no illusions in regard to the standard of their players -- they sang their hearts out because they cared. We went out with ambition, not a sense that being present is good enough. Any Irish fan would have sung equally as hard if the result was 4-0 to Ireland.

The post-mortem can happen now -- there was no need to rub salt in the wounds on Thursday night.
