You get what you tolerate in society

Madam -- Eilis O'Hanlon's article on class (Sunday Independent, July 15, 2012) was the best piece of writing I have seen in your newspaper in some time. It was a breath of fresh air to see someone unafraid to diverge from the usual PC line.

Such problems will not be resolved by tinkering with licensing laws. The problem lies in an uneducated, unemployable sector who see themselves as being apart from society but expect society to pay for them.

These people have no fear of the police. I have no doubt many of the offenders from the Phoenix Park concert were out on bail or have multiple prior convictions. They know full well that they have a better chance of getting a speeding ticket than they have of being convicted for violent anti-social behaviour.
