Eamonn Conway (Irish Independent, December 7) writes that "Irish schools are not State schools. They are State-funded schools".

Without the slightest hint of irony, he follows this by asserting that "it is the State's responsibility to vindicate the rights of parents of various faiths and none". Herein lies the problem.

There is no State primary school system in Ireland.
