Women should run for office only if they want

Since the foundation of the State, females in Irish politics have always been few and far between. If one looks at almost any parliament you will see the exact same issue cropping up.
Women have fought for and won the right to equal opportunities in society. If they wish to run for election they can, if they wish not to, they can. But, now the Government has decided to force more women into politics by imposing a 30pc gender ratio. This is not the workings of democracy at all, it is a dictate from above.
What's next -- a 30pc gender ratio supporting men who wish to work for Aer Lingus, Ryanair or Aer Arann?
