Wise words on 1916 centenary

Sir -- What refreshingly frank and sincere words of wisdom from the Church of Ireland Bishop of Cork, Paul Colton (Sunday Independent, June 19, 2011).
Who, in all fairness, would disagree with the bishop when he said that following the visit of Queen Elizabeth, and as this island faces into a decade of centenaries, "it is crucial that we are not meted out the polarising caricatures from the history books of my childhood"?
Without doubt, the centenary most likely to require sensitive planning will be the celebrations in 2016 to mark the Easter Rising. 'Inclusiveness' must be the watchword for those tasked with organising that event.
